At The Farm 51, we envision Virtual Reality (VR) as a transformative technology with the power to address significant social issues, beyond mere entertainment. With this vision in mind, we are developing the groundbreaking Chernobyl VR Project—the first virtual tour of the Chernobyl and Pripyat area, compatible with multiple VR headsets.
Our goal was not just to create a commercial product, but to offer a deeply meaningful experience. We aimed to reach those personally affected by the Chernobyl disaster, including individuals who lived through the crisis and the brave liquidators who risked their lives to clean up the site, often suffering from acute radiation sickness. We have also engaged prominent supporters, such as Nobel Prize winner Svetlana Alexievich, author of Chernobyl Prayer, and the legendary boxer Vitali Klitschko, now the Mayor of Kiev.
A key aspect of our initiative is the commitment to donate a portion of the proceeds from Chernobyl VR Project to organizations supporting disaster victims. In partnership with the Polish-Ukrainian Open Dialog Foundation, we will select deserving organizations to receive our support. This endeavor aims to assist those affected by the disaster while adding an educational and social dimension to our project.
Chernobyl VR Project began with the simple aim of bringing users into the Exclusion Zone, but it has evolved into a deeply personal journey, uncovering new stories and exploring untouched areas. This is just the beginning; we plan to revisit the site later this year to gather additional footage and continue revealing the area’s rich history.
Join us in this powerful VR experience that honors the past and supports those who lived through it.
