Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak is the gripping prequel to the original Homeworld game, set 106 years before the events you might remember. As a member of the banished Kushan race, you find yourself on a dying planet Kharak, now largely covered in deserts. Surviving clans vie for the remaining “green” areas, while a faction of religious zealots opposes cosmic technology.
When a mysterious object is discovered buried deep in the sands, you, Officer Rachel S’Jet, and a small team are tasked with investigating. What you uncover will challenge everything you know.
Gameplay: Ground-Based RTS
Unlike previous Homeworld titles set in space, Deserts of Kharak takes place entirely on the planet’s surface. The game retains the strategic depth of its predecessors, but with a focus on ground-based combat.
You will command a mobile land cruiser, the Kapsi, which serves as your mobile HQ. If the Kapsi is destroyed, your mission fails. This crucial element adds a unique layer of strategy to the game.
Utilize Environmental Advantages
Deserts of Kharak demands tactical prowess. Use the terrain—plateaus, mountains, and basins—to gain an edge over your enemies. Higher ground offers better range, and effective use of each unit’s active and passive abilities is essential for victory, especially when outnumbered.
